The Charlotte County Historical Society is a nonprofit organization based in Charlotte County, Florida that fosters awareness of the county’s rich heritage, encourages preservation, and a broader appreciation of its historical communities. Started in 1969, the Society’s mission is to support local history programs, services, and projects.

The Society is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff. It is sustained through fundraising and volunteer commitment. The Society hosts three fundraisers/festivals every year with proceeds supporting local history programs.

Hibiscus Festival – This one-of-a-kind celebration began in 2004. The festival celebrates and shares the unique history and character of one of the world’s most renowned hibiscus hybridizers, Harry R. (Pete) Goulding. The festival includes food, music and large numbers of craft and plant vendors. It is held in early May.
